Stop Reverse Stings was created to raise awareness about the growing use of reverse sting operations and the serious risks they pose to fairness, safety, and justice.
Reverse sting operations are law enforcement tactics in which criminal scenarios are designed and controlled by the government rather than arising organically. These operations often rely on informants or undercover agents to initiate contact and carry out the plan. However, the alleged crime itself, including its scope, participants, and severity, exists only because it was created by law enforcement.
While often defended as crime prevention tools, reverse sting operations raise significant concerns about entrapment, proportional punishment, and who is ultimately targeted. In many cases, individuals with little or no history of violent crime face extreme charges based on hypothetical conduct, with sentencing driven by quantities or circumstances selected entirely by the government.
Across the country, reverse sting operations have resulted in:
· People facing lengthy prison sentences for crimes that never actually occurred
· Disproportionate punishment based on fabricated drug quantities or scenarios
· Racial and socioeconomic disparities in enforcement
· Increased risk of violence during staged operations
Stop Reverse Stings exists to:
· Educate the public on how reverse sting operations work
· Share documented cases and data
· Encourage transparency and accountability
· Support informed discussion around ethical policing and reform
This project is independent and intentionally anonymous. The focus is not on personalities or politics, but on public awareness, accuracy, and systemic accountability.
Justice should be based on real harm, not manufactured crimes.
